Jeannine Addinall, Former Deputy Head
Find out more about Former Deputy Head Jeannine Addinall in this interview
Former Deputy Head and Quondam Committee member Jeannine Addinall talks to us about the 32 years she spent teaching at FHS.
When did you work at Francis Holland School?
Between 1981 and 2013.
How are you currently involved with FHS?
I am a member of the Quondam committee, and also enjoy singing with the choir for parents and alumni.
What is your fondest memory from your time at FHS?
There are so many special moments, but one that stands out is returning along the City streets and hearing the bells of St. Paul’s ringing out for us just after we had celebrated 125 years of FHS in the Cathedral.
Who, among your colleagues, was the most influential?
A colleague who really knew what was what was Miss Elizabeth Sifleet, my predecessor as Deputy Head. I learned a great deal from her immaculate organisational skills, kindness and unflappability. She WAS the school. An unfollowable act!
How, and why, did you choose your profession?
It chose me. I planned on a life of academe, but went in the end for something that involved lots of people rather than solitary research. I am very glad I did!
What advice would you give to FHS alumni/pupils?
Take every opportunity life gives you and never, never put off anything you want to achieve to ‘one day.’ Be strong, and enjoy life- be kind.
Are you still in touch with any other FHS alumni?
A number of staff and former pupils, many of whom I see regularly.
