On 10th September, Sarah Ross (née Parr) and Gina Hemmings (née Stone) joined us at Francis Holland for a tour around the school, to reminisce on their time here as they marked 50 years of friendship, having met at the school in 1976.

Their visit began by popping in to see Mrs Woodcock, our current Head, where they discussed how much they enjoyed their time at FHS and how different it had been for both of them moving to new schools for sixth form. They also received copies of Polished Corners, our most recent book of FHS Regent's Park history from the Head.

Highlights from their tour included the swimming pool, and meeting a group of new Year 7 students who were shocked when they explained it had been the site their playground 50 years ago, as well as Linhope House with its modern and bright communal areas which give the girls a taste of university. Although Francis Holland has continued to evolve while they have been away, many of their most memorable classrooms have preserved their character.

Before leaving, both Gina and Sarah reflected on the value of a Francis Holland education. Being at the heart of the city prepared them for modern life, and the focus on supporting each girl individually allowed them to achieve strong results. Both have gone on to have varied and fulfilling careers, and while life has taken them far from London, their friendship remains as strong as ever.
