Photographer and alumna, Rhiannon Adam will take part in the first civilian trip to the moon, having beaten millions to secure a place.
Says Rhiannon: 'I was selected as part of the dearMoon initiative funded by Japanese entrepreneur, Yusaku Maezawa, who wanted artists to apply to be able to make work that could bring people together. I applied, and after a year or so of rounds, I was selected and it was announced formally on Thursday.
'The trip is a week long and takes us around the moon on SpaceX’s starship. The furthest that civilians have ever travelled in space. I’ll be the first Irish person in space, and first openly queer person in space, so it’s been rather crazy on the press front. I’m also the only woman selected in the main crew!'
