The School's annual Art Exhibition returned to St Cyprian’s Church this week, celebrating student achievement across GCSE and A Level Art. From 15th-17th June, the exhibition has been open for public viewing, displaying work from over 30 students who have worked tirelessly over the past few years to hone their artistic talents. Alongside the physical exhibition, the artworks are also displayed in an online exhibition which is now live, offering those who can’t attend in-person the chance to view the exhibition in its entirety.
Head of Art, Miss Carew commented:
Our young artists’ ideas have been developed through experimenting with materials and processes, making mistakes, trying again, adjusting, modifying, and sometimes turning accidents into new artwork. Our young artists learn to observe, reflect, refine, and respond. Art encourages deep engagement; practically and intellectually. The A Level Art Exhibition demonstrates the numerous themes of investigation; conceptual ideas are explored through performance art and sculpture. Ideas about body, space and surveillance are communicated through film, sculpture, drawings paintings and prints.
These artists spent many months of the first year of the GCSE and A Level Art course working independently from home in a partial and then full lockdown. They had to be self-motivated, resilient and show great perseverance. This exhibition is a celebration of our young artists’ efforts. Congratulations to you all, you have done us proud. Additionally, this exhibition is an opportunity to celebrate the Art Department staff whose fantastic teaching, unlimited support and encouragement have helped these girls to thrive creatively. Thank you to Alice Horn, Anastasia Hiorns, Heather Maund, Helen Gardner, and Jane Orr.
The exhibition is on display until noon on Friday 17th June, and online here: FHS RP Art Exhibition 2022.
