Quondam Writing Competition 2025

All current Francis Holland pupils are invited to enter either a poem, essay or a piece of creative writing with a maximum word count of 1000 words. The theme this year is Against All Odds.

Consideration will be given not only to creativity and style, but also to grammatical accuracy. All entries must be a new piece of work, written especially for this competition; please note that no homework or coursework will be accepted.

The Quondam Committee will judge all entries and award a book token of £50 to the winners of the Junior and Senior categories:

The Junior Prize is open to III, LIV and UIV forms

The Senior Prize is open to LV, UV, LVI and UVI forms

HOW TO APPLY

Pupils should hand their entry to their English teacher by Tuesday 29 April 2025.

The following information MUST BE INCLUDED with your entry:

  • Full name and date
  • Form
  • Whether you are entering the Junior or Senior category
  • Title of essay or poem
  • Word count

Any entry received later than the deadline date or not meeting the above requirements will be disqualified. An acknowledgement on receipt of the entry will be sent to the applicant by email.
