On Tuesday 21st March 2023, we were so excited to host a very special event in the FHS musical calendar: a joint Choral Concert with Harrow School, taking place for the first time at the stunning St Marylebone Parish Church.
The concert began with a trio of brilliant performances of William Byrd pieces by the Byron Consort of Harrow School, directed by Philip Evans, followed by Harrow School Chapel Choir performing John Joubert’s O Lorde the maker of al thing and Evening Prayers from Three Prayers of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, directed by David Woodcock.
We then welcomed the FHS Choir to join the Harrow Choir and were regaled by exquisite joint performances of Amy Beach’s Peace I Leave with You, Charles Villiers Stanford’s The Bluebird and ?'riks Ešenvalds’ Stars, all directed by our wonderful Head of Music, Ms Murphy, followed by Ruth Morris Gray’s Sanctus performed solely by the FHS Choir.
Then came the pièce de résistance of the evening: an epic massed choir performance, featuring the Harrow Choral Society, FHS School Choir and visiting percussionists and directed by David Woodcock, of Rutter’s Gloria, which rendered the audience spellbound and exhilarated from start to finish.
A truly glorious evening of music – thank you so much to Harrow for joining us and we are already looking forward to our next joint concert!
